Hall of fame running back Emmitt Smith had chimed in with his opinion on player safety.

In interview with NBC Sports Talk he was asked about Troy Polamalu comments on the Dan Patrick show that he has lied about having concussions. When asked if he would lie to get back in a game;

“Oh, most definitely, at the end of the day, if I can make it happen I’m going to make it happen. I’m going to do what I have to do. How many people think about, ‘Some day I’m going to be 50′ when they’re 20-something years old? As a young player you can go through certain things that you might not understand the repercussions right then and there because it’s in the moment.”

While Smith makes a valid point, what needs to be addressed is the culture in the NFL that everybody is replaceable, and you can ill afford to miss anytime ov the field.

From the time you play pee wee football you’re taught to play through injury and ‘tough it out’.

If the NFL wants players to be more forthcoming with injuries they have to provide then with some guarantee that they won’t lost their job on account of it.
