Brandon Weeden Named Cleveland Browns Starting QB

After months of delaying the inevitable, the Cleveland Browns finally announced that first round pick Brandon Weeden will be their starting quarterback for the season.

This comes as no surprise, as this was the overriding thought when he was selected number 22 overall in the draft.

Weeden had taken most of the reps with the first string during OTA’s and started with the first string at the start of Training camp and after it was announced, was pretty excited after practice when asked about being the starter.

“I think I’ve busted my tail for 10 practices now,” he said. “I’ve put in a lot of work, a lot of studying. I’ve had some ups, had some downs, but I think I’ve come a long way. Hearing the news, it’s obviously exciting but my preparation’s not gonna change. I’m going to continue to get better as a player, continue to be a leader on this football team. My job is to get this team better to start winning games.”

While it is good that the Browns named Weeden their starter early so he can get the most reps he can, there will still be a learning curve as it would be with any rookie. Let’s just hope that he grasps the offense fairly quickly and shows consistent progress throughout the preseason.
