Fat Joe Says Allen Iverson was the Tupac of Basketball

While Allen Iverson isn’t in the NBA any longer, he’s still revered as one of the best guards to ever play the game. However rapper Fat Joe feels an even stronger reference is apropos.

In an Interview with the New York Times Fat compared Iversons’ impact on the league to fallen rapper Tupac Shakur and went as far as calling him a revolutionary.

“Allen Iverson was the Tupac of basketball; he was a true revolutionary. His talent was incredible, but as you know, in this game of basketball, experts will say, “If you don’t get a chip, then we don’t care what you’ve done,” which is unfair to a lot of phenomenal players, like Ewing, Charles Barkley and also Karl Malone and John Stockton.” Fat Joe

While I do believe Iverson was a great NBA player, future hall of famer, his on the court game wasn’t that revolutionary, however, his contribution to the culture is what made him so influential. The manner in which her carried himself, his style, they way he dressed, the fact that he refused to cut his hair even if would make him more mainstream friendly. Hell, the NBA changed the dress code rule in part because they were tired of players like Iverson coming press conferences in t-shirts and du-rags on. Iverson reminded you of the guy downstair instead of the guy in the office. He was relatable to the every day fan and was able to connect to the black and white kids who felt like they weren’t excepted.

Nonetheless, I wouldn’t say Iverson’s game was revolutionary as much as his contribution to the culture of basketball.

And just because we can here’s Iverson classic rant about practice, because who doesn’t want to laugh.

Seahawks Cornerback Richard Sherman Blames Failed Drug Test on Teammate

It’s a cold world when your friends start to turn their back on you, and the same can be said when teammates throw you under the bus. Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman violated the leagues substance abuse policy and was nabbed for taking adderall.

Shermans’ excuse was he shared a drink from a teammate who sprinkled adderall in his water bottle.

Sherman tweeted that the truth will come out and he’s not worried.

<blockquote><p>This is issue will be resolved soon and the truth will come out. Not worried</p>&mdash; Richard Sherman (@RSherman_25) <a href=”https://twitter.com/RSherman_25/status/272936953673031680″ data-datetime=”2012-11-26T05:36:55+00:00″>November 26, 2012</a></blockquote>

While that might be true, that is a weak and dumb excuse to fail a drug test. This just goes to show as we get older, not all of us get wiser. For this very reason is why you shouldn’t share certain things. You can never be sure what someone else is putting in their body, so why take the risk and endanger yourself?

If anything he should be suspended on the basis of absurdity alone. We should all use this as a teaching tool, trust no one, teammates, friends, or family and control what you can control.

Mike Holmgren Leaves Browns Effective Immediately

Mike Holmgren has left his post as President of the team after their win today against the Pittsburgh Steelers a team spokesman told at Associated Press.

The Browns were sold to new owner Jimmy Haslam and he hired former Philadelphia CEO/President Joe Banner which left no role for Holmgren. The original plan was for Holmgren to stay until the end of the season in an advisory role to ensure an easy transition from the old regime to the new.

Holmgren’s time in Cleveland can be summed up in one work; disappointing. He was viewed as the offensive guru who was going to bring the Cleveland Browns back to prominence. Instead all he has brought is is  3 losing seasons, and a coach that looks overwhelmed and undeserving of the job he has. The most excitement Holmgren has brought to town is from a press conference when he blew up on the media and told them not to ask him for playoff tickets.

Well Holmgren doesn’t have to worry about that, as the Browns haven’t come close to the playoffs during his time as President, and when they do he won’t be the guy to to pound his chest and lay claim to orchestrating it all.

Holmgren was paid a lot of money to do a job that with the benefit of hindsight he was unqualified for. He’s a coach, a hall of fame one at that, but as an executive, he’s proven to be nothing more than an equivalent to a guy on the practice squad. From not signing any legitimate free agents on the offensive side of the ball to give his rookie quarterback some weapons to not pulling the trigger on trading up to draft stellar rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III, he’ll be more remembered for not firing Eric Mangini and wasting a year in the rebuilding process preaching a process of patience while routinely there are teams in the NFL that go from worse to playoff contention every year.

Fitting that Holmgren would leave the Browns after beating the Steelers, a feat they haven’t accomplished since December 2009 before today. Let this be a cautionary tale for other teams. There are no such things as saviors in the front office, it’s the players on the field who win and lose games.
