In this young off season, the Cleveland Indians are already making moves, trading for Mike Aviles and Yan Gomes, sending Esmil Rogers to the Blue Jays. It’ll be a while before we see how these moves impact the team, but hopefully they can provide the Tribe with an offensive jolt.

The Cleveland Indians today announced the club acquired INF MIKE AVILES and CA/INF YAN GOMES from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for RHP ESMIL ROGERS.

AVILES, 31, appeared in 136 games for the Red Sox as their starting shortstop last season, batting .250 with 13 HR and 60 RBI. Aviles was drafted in 2003 by Kansas City and named the Royals Minor League Player of the Year in 2007. He was the Royals MVP in 2008 and finished fourth in the Rookie of the Year voting after batting .325 with 10 HR and 51 RBI in 102 games.

GOMES, 25, spent the majority of 2012 season batting .328 (100-305) with 44 RS, 29 2B, 13 HR & 59 RBI in 79 games for AAA Las Vegas
