Cleveland Indians Trade Shin Soo Choo to the Reds

During the off season players are regularly bandied about in trade rumors, tonight the rumor of Indians right fielder Shin Soo Choo are now true. The Cleveland Indians traded the .283 batting outfielder to the Cincinnati Reds in return for right handed pitchers Trevor Bauer, Matt Albers, and Bryan Shaw, and outfielder Drew Stubbs who’s coming from the Arizona Diamondbacks apart of the three team deal. The Tribe also sent Jason Donald, Tony Sipp and Lars Anderson to the Diamondbacks. Below is a breakdown of the deal from the Indians.

 

Today, the Indians received RHP TREVOR BAUER, RHP MATT ALBERS and RHP BRYAN SHAW from the Diamondbacks and OF DREW STUBBS from the Reds in exchange for OF SHIN-SOO CHOO, INF JASON DONALD, LHP TONY SIPP, INF LARS ANDERSON and cash considerations. Choo, Donald and cash are being sent to Cincinnati while Sipp, Anderson and INF Didi Gregorius (from CIN) are now members of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Bauer, 21, was the third overall selection by Arizona in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of UCLA after winning the 2011 Golden Spikes Award and National Player of the Year.

Stubbs, 28, has appeared in parts of 4 Major League seasons with the Reds since 2009 after being selected in the first round (8th overall) of the 2006 draft. Stubbs recorded at least 30 stolen bases for the 3rd consecutive season in 2012, becoming one of just 6 Major League players to do so over the span since 2010.

Albers, 29, split the 2012 season between the Boston Red Sox and Arizona, going a combined 3-1 with a 2.39ERA.

Shaw, 25, spent most of the 2012 season in the Arizona bullpen and had 64 relief appearances.
