Steve Nash Becomes 5th Player to Achieve 10,000 Assist

Tuesday January 8 against the Houston Rockets Steve Nash became 5th all time on the assist list as well as being the only the 5th player all time to notch 10,000 assist.

Nash over has a career average of 8.6 assist per game and had led the league in assist 6 times, finishing top 5 in assist 9 times total.

He’s had no less than 600 total assist in a season side 2003-2003 when he accumulated 598.

Nash is only behind Jason Kidd (#2, 11,969) and John Stockton (#1,15,806).

Steve Nash ranks number 2 among active players.

Cavs Anderson Varejao Out 6-8 Weeks After Knee Surgery

The Cleveland Cavs announced today that center Anderson Varejao well undergo knee surgery in Thursday January 10th on his right knee to repair a split in his vastus medialis.

Varejao had been out since December 18th with what was initially diagnosed as a knee contusion.

After weeks of rehabbing an MRI showed that the split was worsening and tissue underneath the tear was herniating and pinching with movement of the kneee.

After a second opinion, the Cavs and Varejao decided it was best to move forward with surgery now.

In the last three seasons, including the current one, Varejao had played a total 81 games. 25 this season and last (2011-2012) and 31 games in 2010-211. While very talented, if Varejao can’t stay on the court he proves to have little value for a youthful Cavs team.

His injuries coincide with his minute increase, over the last 3 seasons he’s averaged 33 minutes. In his previous 6 seasons he averaged 23 minutes, with his guest highest being 28.5 minutes per game.

Varejao was having his best and most complete season averaging 14.1 points, 14.4 rebounds 3.4 assist and shooting 47% from the field.

Baseball Hall of Fame has No 2013 Inductees, First Time Since 1996

The Baseball Hall of Fame for the first time since 1996 will have no inductees.

This is the first year that most the players who are suspected to be steroid users are all on the ballot.

Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Roger Clemens, and Rafael Palmeiro all received less than 38% of the vote.

The minimum needed to be inducted is 75% and the players are voted in by Baseball’s Writers Association of America (BBWAA).

Five voters left their ballot blank and this is only the 8th time where there was a year with no inductees.
