Streak Over for the Good?

lebron-james-jason-terry-dunk-elite-daily-485x323                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            The most impressive winning streak within the last 20 years in the NBA is over but the Heat should not be hating on the Bulls. They should instead be sending them a Thank You Card. Even though the James Gang came just 7 wins away from the longest streak in league history, completing it could have spelled disaster for a deep playoff run.

Through the first 2/3 of the long haul that is the NBA Season the Heat were merely on cruise control, knowing that they could flip the switch at any point and bull their way into the playoffs. (no pun intended) Let’s just say the switch was flipped on Feb 1st and since then they didn’t drop a game until a couple of days ago.

The Heat should welcome the ending of the streak because most teams that have a 12 game lead with under 20 to play in the season are taking off practices and sitting at the end of the bench eating fries and wearing your best suit, but with the pressure of the streak weighing on this team no one could take a day off even when they were banged up.

Now the Heat should rest and get ready for the playoffs. The recipe for sucess should be giving each guy about 5 games off in a rotation style, and then with about 5-8 games to go get everyone back going and locked in on the playoffs.

The streak itself was impressive for sure but it wouldn’t have meant a thing if they broke the streak and then came out flat in the playoffs. The Heat can now refocus on their title defense.

Change for the Yankees

justin_morneau-5525

The team that wears the pinstripes is being questioned after being beaten up in the playoffs last year and now a plethora of injuries for the Yankees is causing everybody to question the team. Now after the news that Mark Teixeira may be out longer than expected it is now time to look at the move that the Yankees must make.

Since most teams at this point will not be looking to dump players or make trades with the regular season just 10 days away. One team though that is not expected to perform is the Minnesota Twins and they have a player in Justin Morneau that is very appealing to the Yankees.

He is in the final year of his contract so he is cheap and the Twins would not be looking to get a whole lot in return. The Yankees could use Morneau at first til Teixeira gets back, and then could bring him off the bench once Mark returns. The Yankees could get Morneau for Jayson Nix, a minor league reliever, and by paying his salary for this year. It is not a whole lot to give up and the gain could be huge. The only question is will Cashman pull the trigger. Time will tell.

Phil Dawson Leaves Browns, Signs Deal with 49ERS

phil dawson signs with 49ers

The last remaining player from the Cleveland Browns reincarnation back in 1999 is no longer with the team. Phil Dawson after not receiving a contract offer from Browns, announced on his twitter page he reached an agreement to play for the San Francisco 49ERS.

Dawson spent 14 years in Cleveland and will finish second to Lou ‘The Toe” Grozas’ in total scoring, but ranks above Browns greats, Jim Brown, Leroy Kelly and Dante Lavelli to name a few.

With the 49ers, Dawson will replace David Akers who struggled with kicks over 50 yards, an area Dawson has been exceptional in kicks 40 yards or more making 14 of 15 tries from 50-plus yards and13 of 14 attempts from 40 to 49 over the course of the last two seasons.

The 49ERS who are coming off losing Super Bowl XLVII have now sured up to positions in this short off season where they lacked depth. Earlier in the month they acquired Anquan Boldin and with the pick up of Dawson adds stability to those two positions.

Dawson tweeted his signing to the 49ERS and thanked the fans of Cleveland, below are his tweets.

  1. I am humbled & thrilled to have the opportunity to continue my career with my new team, the SF 49ers!

  2. Playing for you has been one of the great joys of my life, and I wish you all the best.

  3. Hey, Cleveland. Thank you for a tremendous ride. Your love, support & encouragement have blessed me deeply.

(Video) LeBron James Kills Jason Terry with Monster Dunk

LeBron kills the jet

It wasn’t too long ago that Jason Terry was talking trash that he didn’t care about the Miami Heats’ winning streak. Well LeBron must’ve heard this, and when given the chance took no mercy on the 6’2 guard. If you haven’t seen the video of Jason Terry getting posterized, just look below.

Disclaimer: This dunk may cause a reaction to jump up and down and make very loud noises that might scare others, so do not watch around those with weak hearts.

Perfect End for the Big East

Madison_Square_Garden_IV

When this weekend comes to an end and the brackets are set one phenomenon in college basketball will have written its final chapter. Due to the craze of conference realignment for the better of college football one of the greatest and most historic conferences in the game will be disbanded.

Even though this is the 11th hour of the conference, there might not be a better way to end it with the matchups we will see in the final three games at the Mecca that is Madison Square Garden. 4 of the most storied franchises in all of college hoops will matchup in the sprint for the final Big East Championship.

The first matchup tonight at 7 will feature the greatest rivalry in Big East history as Syracuse will face Georgetown for the final time. This matchup has seen its fair share of ejections, technical fouls, lost teeth, black eyes, and dramtic moments. The anticipation of this game is even higher after the Orange got drummed that week scoring only 39 points against the Hoyas, giving the Orange one more shot to prove that they are the best when it matters most.

Then in our second game we see a matchup of Notre Dame and Louisville. This matchup earlier in the year gave us a 5 overtime thriller leaving everyone on the edge of their seat, opening the door for a Notre Dame player that transferred from Michigan State, and left others shaking their heads at Russ Smith AKA Rusticulous and his bizzare shots.

Both matchups should be spectacular and should be just a preview of a great Big East title game no matter who wins and maybe opening the door for one of these teams to even win the whole Big Dance as the Big East says goodnight as we know it.
