Tim Tebow to Start?

The most polarizing figure in the NFL that never even started a game last year was thought to be out of a job in not just New York, but in the NFL altogether. But things have changed for Tim Tebow following the signing of new Jets GM John Idzik. Idzik said earlier this week that he does not only want Tim to stay with the team, he thinks Tim will have a shot at the starting quarterback job.

This decision was made after Idzik met with season ticket holders and the decision was made to keep Tebow to increase the competition at the starting quarterback position. Some speculation is still out there that this statement is only being made to disguise the hand that Jets might be playing when it comes to the roster moves of Tim Tebow.

Tim Tebow who was brought in at one point last year as a realistic shot to contend for the starting quarterback job was quickly disgraced and dispacted of in a way not seen ever by a quarterback who won a playoff game and turned a team around the season before. The remaining months should be interesting to see what the Jets do with the most criticized and yet most popular player in the nation’s most popular sport.

The ESPN Factor

espn-logo

The image of thousands of rowdy and excited college hoops fans is becoming less of a surprise and more of a precedent in the game of college basketball this year. This years influx of upsets in college basketball has left many analysts speachless and awestruck for answers on the cause. Today I will give you the answer why 19 teams ranked in the top 5 have fallen to the unranked this year.

In time where Twitter is king and ESPN is a 24 hour sports new outlet. The magnitude of every game is more emphasized than ever. This is what I like to call the ESPN Factor. Every game is more scrunitzed, analyzed, and victimized more than ever, giving the underdog more knowledge and confidence to pull off the unthinkable. If this impossible upset can be pulled off the unknown team will jump to the top highlight on Sportscenter. So know that we understand that ESPN and the hype and popularity they bring causes more upsets. How will the ESPN Factor effect the outcome of the NCAA Tournament.

The perception of how the NCAA Tournament usually goes is that of a microcosm of the season at large. I think that will not be the case. Once the teams are locked into the tournament, focus will be reestablished and the upsets will be lower than ever in the Big Dance. I think once again whoever the top 4 seeds are will make it to the elite 8 with maybe one lower seed sneaking into the Final Four (hopefully my Syracuse Orange).

So in the year of the court storming they will likely begin reduce as the big dogs gain control, refocus, and look past the might and powerful sports god that is ESPN.

5 Predictions for the Yankees Upcoming Season

82946283_crop_650x440Today is the day that the greatest sport’s franchise will start another journey to the ultimate goal of a 28th World Series Championship. With more questions that need to be answered for the Yankees at the beginning of a season in more than 20 years. What are the 5 key things that will happen this year to help the Yankees reach baseball nirvana.

1. The Yankees will win less than 95 games this year. Last year they won 95 games and the place where they will likely lose these 2 or three games is within the division. Last year in the AL East the Yankees went 41-31. The team I see them dropping a few games to or the revamped Toronto Blue Jays, with their rebuilt rotation and potent lineup. Look for the Yankees to go 8-10 against the Blue Jays and finish the year with 92 wins.

2. The everyday outfield for the Yankees will not look the same at all. Ichiro Suzuki after signing a two year deal in the offseason will play a huge majority of the games in right field. That move does not comes as much of a surprise after the loss of Nick Swisher to the Indians. Curtis Granderson and Brett Gardner will likely switch fields after Gardner has proven to be the best centerfielder in baseball playing left field. This is not a slight on Granderson’s defense at all but with this move the Yankees are assembling one of the fastest and most proficient outfields in all of baseball.

3. Derek Jeter will have a very similar season to last year. After struggling in 2011 Jeter proved all critics wrong by coming out and leading the American League in hits and reinventing his career along the way. Now after coming off a broken ankle it is just another chance for Jeter to prove everyone wrong. Jeter will bat over .315 and pick up over 180 hits.

4. Alex Rodriguez will have litte to no impact on the season at large. ARod the scapegoat for Yankee playoff woes will have the worst offensive season of his career. Woth Youkilis coming off a decent stint with the White Sox hitting 15 HR and driving 46 in 80 games Youk will be the everyday third baseman all year. ARod will not be back until the at least the All Star Break and by then Youk will be solid at the hot corner.

5. Yankees will win the World Series over the Nationals in 6 games.

It should be a great season and the Yankees should come out on top. If they don’t the door may close on an era of greatness for Jeter, Rivera, and Pettitte.

Wal-Mart Webstie Had 49ers Winning Super Bowl Day Before Game

49ers championship dvd

When you’re a big company like Wal-Mart you tend to have things pre-planned just so that at the press of a button you can have everything ready to go for the public to see.

Well, someone obviously pressed the button too quick, as on Saturday, Wal-Mart’s website had them predicting the 49ers would win the Super Bowl and were selling a San Francisco 49ers Champions DVD.

Now knowing the the 49ers lost, this silly mistake is even funnier than before. Bright side is, the guy who made the mistake can at least say he wasn’t the guy responsible for blackout at the Super Dome. Hopefully that mishap doesn’t cost him his job.

Browns Website Still Shows Mike Holmgren, Fired Coach and Gm as Apart of Organization

Browns website 1

While the Cleveland Browns fired head coach Pat Shurmur and general manager Tom Heckert Monday, and Mike Holmgren resigned weeks ago, on the teams website it still shows them as having jobs.

Now it’s common that once you get fired you are paid the remainder of your salary, however most teams once they fire someone immediately remove anything referring to them on team websites, Facebook, etc.

Nonetheless, Browns fan shouldn’t feel bad, their not the only team to forget that they fired their coach Monday as well. The Bears still have Lovie Smith listed as their head coach as well.

In my estimation, the only team to handle this right is the Buffalo Bills. According to their site, they don’t have a coach for any position, its all ‘to be determined’.

Most successful people are great when it comes to handling the minor details. Updating the team website would be one of those things I consider a minor, but important detail. It’s a place any one in the world can go to get information on your team. Hopefully the Browns and Bears will handle the coaching hires with more attention to detail than they did with their teams website.
