Police and other officials searched the home of Patriots Aaron Hernandez earlier today in connection with the death of a man alleged to be an associate of the star tight end. Massachusetts state police are setting up an interview with Hernandez following their current investigation.

During the search two of Aaron’s friends tried to leave the house but were halted by police. Hernandez has not been named a suspect, but a car with Rhode Island located near the scene lead officials to the Hernandez residence.

Hernandez has been uncooperative with police following the death of a 27 year old man in Industrial Park near his home.  Hernandez has 18 career touchdown catches and one Pro-Bowl appearance since being drafted in the 4th round in 2010.

Clay Buchholz: Cheater or Gamer?

baseball1

Over a week ago everyone around the country was talking about the great pitching of Clay Buchholz (6-0 1.01 ERA). Now they are discussing not about his pitching performance but the possibility of him being a cheater.

After his start in Toronto, Blue Jays broadcaster, Jack Morris, came out and said that he suspects Buchholz of throwing a “spitter”. The spitter is not an illegal pitch by rule, but is frowned upon due to the lack of control a pitcher can throw this pitch with. Maybe though we can’t look at Clay as a cheater but as a gamer.

A lot of what people call cheating now a days in baseball is just better gamesmanship. Some say stealing signs is cheating, but if you are smart enough to notice signs and pick up on them more power to you. Buchholz did say he had water on the hip of his uniform to enhance grip on the ball.

In a performance based industry that is professional sports, Every advantage must be taken and for Buchholz coming off a rough year last year he needs to make a statement. I applaud Clay for coming up with this idea, throwing the pitch, and owning up to it at the end. Buchholz will be deemed gamer not cheater.

Bruins Rookie Dougie Hamilton is Impressive!

It looks like rookie Dougie Hamilton is impressing the right people! The general manager of the Boston Bruins, Peter Chiarelli, is realistic in that he knows that some struggle is part of having a talented, young rookie on his team but he is also impressed by him.

Hamilton is only 19 years old and playing in the NHL so he definitely has time to prove and improve himself even more than he already has. It seems to me that with continued support from those in the Bruins organization, Dougie Hamilton is only going to keep progressing!

I know I look forward to seeing what he can do. Personally, rookies are among my favorites to watch in any sport. Fresh, young talent ready to make their mark! As a sports fan, you’ve got to love and appreciate that.

Cleveland Indians Hire Terry Francona as New Manager

Today, Terry Francona will be formally named the 42nd Manager of the Cleveland Indians. Terry brings tremendous energy, passion, and experience to the organization, including 12 years of Major League managing experience, five playoff appearances, and two World Series titles. Over his career, Terry has earned a reputation for developing young players, motivating veterans, and getting the most out of his teams.

Francona will lead a young team filled with potential, with young players like Cody Allen, Michael Brantley, Asdrubal Cabrera, Lonnie Chisenhall, Jason Kipnis, Corey Kluber, Justin Masterson, Zach McAllister, and Carlos Santana.

Dodgers and Red Sox to Complete Blockbuster Deal

According to a Fox Sports report the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox are in the final stages of a 9 player deal that will see Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto leave Boston for L.A. The Dodgers will send their top pitching prospect Allen Webster, first baseman James Loney, infielder Ivan DeJesus Jr., right-hander Rubby De La Rosa and outfielder Jerry Sands.

The deal represents the Red Sox waiving the proverbial white flag on their playoff chase as they sit 15.5 games out of first place in their division and 8.5 in the wildcard standings.

For the Dodgers they hope this moves place them in position to chase down division San Francisco Giants who currently hold a 3 game lead, while they only 1.5 out of the final wildcard spot.

The Red Sox who have fought turmoil going back to their collapse last season which resulted in the firing of manager Terry Francona, thought the bringing in of a new manager would clear the  bad vibes. However, the Red Sox just never found their rhythm and havent been more than 5 games above the .500 mark since July 1st and haven’t been .500 since August 6th.

The Red Sox will now go into next season with plenty of money to spend with $250 million they save from shipping off Gonzales (owed $109.3 million through 2017), Crawford ($106.8 million through 2017), and Beckett ($34 million through 2014) off their books.

The Dodgers who are in the middle of a pennant race and under new management are going all in for their chance at a title since 1998. While their players they’re receiving wore out their welcome in Boston, coming to a locker room with solid leadership and in the middle a playoff race they should have no problem falling in line for the time being. The addition of Gonzales adds another bat to a lineup that already had no problem scoring, and if Beckett can return to form from a few years ago, the Dodgers have as good a chance as anybody in the National League to make a run at the conference title.

The one thing Red Sox management could learn from this, perhaps before firing your manager, and siding with the players who showed a lack of effort and passion for their manager, survey the situation and think about who you align you alliances with. We see now with Bobby Valentine at the helm, that he couldn’t reach this team and the clubhouse was overrun with players who were undermining Franconas’ power.
