Kyrie Irving Cleared to Play from Hand Injury

Kyrie Irving has been out for three weeks with a fractured index finger on his left hand, and was cleared for full contact on Monday and coach Byron Scott said he plans on starting the second year point guard when the Cavs take on the Los Angeles Lakers.

While Irving was out the Cavs tallied a record of 2-9, not much better than the 2-8 record they posted with him. The Cavs are also missing their starting rookie guard Dionne Waiters who’s averaging 15 points, 3 assist and a frigid 36% from the field and 35% from three-point land who’s out with a sprained ankle and bone bruise.

While getting Irving back will definitely give the Cavs a boost, they will need Waiters to be more efficient when he returns. The 15 points as a rookie is a good start, however the Cavs need him to be more than a volume scorer. As he continues to develop, fans have to show some patience with the young man as he will have ups and downs during his first season. Hopefully he blooms earlier than most rookies, but history tells us that we’ll see flashes this year and in his second season is where we’ll see the biggest jump in consistency.

Now with Irving back that allows everybody else to go back to their normal role and not feel the pressure of having to do something they’re not used to. Irving having been injured every year the last three years straight, needs to find a way to stay on the court. A fractured finger, concussion, and sprained ankles are all things that can be considered freak injuries, but if he is to be the backbone of the team, it will be crucial for him to stay on the court.

Juan Manuel Marquez KO’s Manny Pacquiao (Video)

The knockout heard around the country, in their fourth fight Juan Manuel Marquez finally defeated Manny Pacquiao by  knockout in the 6th round.

I must say while it was a great punch by Marquez, Manny got caught trying to end the fight early and get out of dodge, and when he missed that right hand, he left himself wide open to take the kind of shot that he took and Marquez took full advantage of it.

While there probably will be another Marquez v Pacquiao, I hope not, we’ve seen this fight four times already, lets get a new rivalry started, something new and fresh.

If you haven’t seen the knockout, here it is below.

Marcus Lattimore Suffers Dislocated Knee and Ligament Damage

On Saturday standout running back Marcus Lattimore suffered a gruesome knee injury that could potentially end his football career. According to an Associated Press report Lattimore suffered a dislocated knee, and ligament damage. However, according to South Carolina team doctor Jeffery Guy he suffered no broken bones or fractures and his left knee suffered no injury as well.

Coach Steve Spurrier spoke on his star running back saying he’d rather have him on the field, but they’ll let prayers and the doctors do their work.

”Marcus has already begun the process of prehabilitation prior to surgery and to his eventual return to football. We’re optimistic his football days are ahead of him, he knows what the road ahead is, we’re all hoping and praying he’ll be back. We’d rather have Marcus on our team, that’s for dang sure; In life, sometimes you’ve got to move on with whatever hand you’re dealt. We’ll just go a day at a time and allow the doctors and Marcus and a lot of prayers do their work,” Spurrier said.

Injuries like these are what make some push for the financial compensation of players. All it takes is one freak hit to end your athletic career and affect the way you go through the rest of life. Yes, they receive a college education, but nothing beats the value a true dollar. Hopefully we get to a point where universities see fit to share the loads of money they make with the labor that allows them to turn such a profit.

image

If you didn’t know, Delonte West suffers from Bi Polar Disorder, and if you’ve followed his career at all, you’ll notice that he’s has a flare up every once in a while. Well Delonte was suspened after Tuesdays game for conduct detrimental to the team.

However, the suspension only lasted a day after he met with coach Rick Carlisle and General Manager and apparently cleared their issues.

Carlisle did acknowledge that you have to understand where Delontes’ point of view comes from.

“Most players in this league run on gas,Delonte runs on diesel. And so you’ve got to listen to him, and you’ve got to understand him. He’s a little different.”

Hopefully Delonte doesn’t have any more issues, it looks like he really fits in well in Dallas, would hate to see him lose it because of a medical condition.

Delonte West and the Dallas Mavericks quickly resolved Monday’s outburst in the locker room following a meeting with Rick Carlisle and Donnie Nelson.

“Most players in this league run on gas,” Carlisle said. “Delonte runs on diesel. And so you’ve got to listen to him, and you’ve got to understand him. He’s a little different.”

West played 18 minutes and contributed seven points, four assists and two rebounds Wednesday against Phoenix.

West has bipolar disorder.

“You know exactly what you’re getting with D-West,” Mark Cuban said. “You just don’t know when.

“Delonte will tell you when it’s time to hunt, he’s the dog you want out there hunting for you; he’s the guy you want in the foxhole with you. He’s a warrior. The guys love that.”
