Kobe Says Realistically He’ll Only Play One More Year

kobe bryant plans to play one more year

For most great players it’s hard for them to admit when the end is near. However, for Kobe Bryant he seems to have come to grips that he’s on borrowed time and that father time is slowly approaching his door step.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Kobe said he knows he’s probably going to play one more year and then hang it up.

“Realistically I have only one year left, so I’m trying to enjoy myself.”

Kobe is playing at an incredibly high level at this stage in his career, averaging 27 points, 5 assist and 5 rebounds and shooting 46% from the field, something he’s only done 6 times in his 17 years in the league. Kobe has been more efficient and become a willing passer in hopes of keeping the Lakers in a position to make the playoffs.

I’ll believe Kobe will retire when basketball season comes around and he’s not suiting up. He says he doesn’t want to be the guy that is hanging on too long, playing as his skills diminish, but what should make us believe that his competitiveness is going to allow him to retire knowing he can still put up 20 points a game?

Kobe will retire some day, I just don’t believe that day is one year from now.

Tracy McGrady Say He Never Played Kobe One on One

Tracy McGrady

In response to an interview Kobe Bryant did with ESPN, Tracy McGrady is refuting the claim that Kobe beat him 3 times in a game of one on one. McGrady says, they never even played at all.

McGrady issued his denial of the event on his twitter page;

“LOL Hell no! That’s far from the truth. No one in the NBA is playing 1 on 1. Me and KB never went to Germany together either..”

Well now it’s a case of who do you believe. Kobe or McGrady? I’ll say this, him getting beat 3 times sounds a lot more believable than they never traveled to Germany together. Remember when they were both signed to Adidas back in the day? It’s quite conceivable that they were in Germany together on Adidas business, and that’s when they played.

If you ask me, I’m rolling with Kobe’s story, it’s much more entertaining.

Kobe Bryant: “I played T-Mac. I cooked him. Roasted him. Wasn’t even close”

Kobe Bryant is one of the most confident athletes you’ll ever come across. So it’s no surprise that he would say that he’s the best one on one player of all time.

In an interview with ESPN, Kobe told a story about how he beat Tracy McGrady in a game of one on one.

“I played T-Mac. I cooked him. Roasted him. Wasn’t even close. Ask him, he’ll tell you. When I was about 20, we were in Germany doing some promotional stuff for that other sneaker company and we played basketball every day. We were in the gym all the time. We played three games of one-on-one to 11. I won all three games. One game I won 11-2. After the third game he said he had back spasms and couldn’t play anymore.”

Well one thing we know for sure, McGrady did have a history of back spasms, so that part we can be sure it probably true. The fact that Kobe told this story, I can only imagine he didn’t want him to. It’s no shame in losing to one of the greatest players ever.

Lakers Jordan Hill to Have Season Ending Hip Surgery

image

After hurting his hip last Sunday against the Denver Nuggets Friday the Lakers announced that Jordan Hill will need to have season ending hip surgery.

“Andre Miller drove baseline and Kobe [Bryant], trying to go back and guard him, he accidentally stepped on my foot. Like, I stayed in one spot but my hip kept going. It kind of pulled the joint out.”

Is how Hill described how the injury occurred.

Team doctors said that Hill has loose fragments in addition to a possible labral tear in his hip. Recovery time is estimated to be six months after surgery, which should allow him to be ready for the 2013-2014 season.

(Video) New NBA Commercial With Chris Paul and Magic Johnson

Chris Paul

The NBA has released another commercial produced by the great Spike Lee. This one includes Chris Paul, Steve Nash and Magic Johnson.

It displays Chris Paul’s speed, and him leaving his man in a cloud of dust. I find it hilarious that Steve Nash is in the commercial just watching Chris Paul, considering that when he guards him, that’s usually what happens.

You can watch the new 30 second spot below.
