Tim Tebow to Start?

The most polarizing figure in the NFL that never even started a game last year was thought to be out of a job in not just New York, but in the NFL altogether. But things have changed for Tim Tebow following the signing of new Jets GM John Idzik. Idzik said earlier this week that he does not only want Tim to stay with the team, he thinks Tim will have a shot at the starting quarterback job.

This decision was made after Idzik met with season ticket holders and the decision was made to keep Tebow to increase the competition at the starting quarterback position. Some speculation is still out there that this statement is only being made to disguise the hand that Jets might be playing when it comes to the roster moves of Tim Tebow.

Tim Tebow who was brought in at one point last year as a realistic shot to contend for the starting quarterback job was quickly disgraced and dispacted of in a way not seen ever by a quarterback who won a playoff game and turned a team around the season before. The remaining months should be interesting to see what the Jets do with the most criticized and yet most popular player in the nation’s most popular sport.

Greg McElroy Out with Concussion, Mark Sanchez Will Start for Jets

New York Jets logo

The New York Jets drama and quarterback shuffle continues after Greg McElroy revealed to the coaching staff that he was having concussion symptoms. He missed practice Wednesday and Thursday.

Mark Sanchez will get the start in the season finale and Tim Tebow will be the back up.

Now we will see how much head coach Rex Ryan and staff don’t believe in Tebow. After benching Sanchez in favor of McElroy against the Chargers after all season long propagandizing that Tebow was the backup. Now in a game that means absolutely nothing except for draft position, this would be a great as time as ever to give Tebow his chance to play.

Instead they rather not play him because they don’t believe in his skills as a quarterback and rather not hurt his trade stock. However, in their hopes of shielding the world from showing how bad Tebow really is, them not playing him tells us exactly what they think of him and his skills.

SI Players Poll Ranks Tebow and Sanchez Among Most Overrated

One thing is for sure, Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez garner attention anytime their name is mentioned.

In the most recent issue of Sports Illustrated magazine in a player poll, they ranked Mark Sanchez the most over rated with Tim Tebow finishing second.

This has to be a first with to players on the same team being in the top 5 and both of them being quarterbacks. But it seems as if this ranking is more sour grapes than substance. Mark Sanchez has at least taken his team to the brink of making the Super Bowl, won multiple playoff games. You can say what you want about Sanchez, but in his 4 years he has at least proven himself on the field, beyond all the glitz and glamour he gets.

When you look at Tebow, much of it is rooting for the person more than the player. Tebow as a quarterback isn’t the most conventional or productive. Yes, in the fourth quarter he shows up and balls out, however we can’t forget there are 3 other quarters that are just as important. While Tebow may not be the most overrated, he gets more credit for being good for such a small period of time than most players do.

Tony Romo, Michael Vick and Ray Lewis round out the list of most overrated. Over the years we’ve heard the rumblings that Romo doesn’t have what it takes to take his team to the next level. In 4 playoff games he only has 1 win an in his last appearance his team only scrounged up 3 points. The feeling with Romo is you can’t trust him, you never know when he’s going to go Tony ‘Uh Oh’. When you look at his numbers, he has 14 4th quarter comebacks, but there’s no trust in Romo when the game is on the line.

Vick and Lewis, I disagree with the former, however with Reverend Ray, after 17 years its understandable to have some drop off. Thing is, he’s been on a decline the last few years, and even the Ravens defense as a whole has been on a decline. I think though Lewis’ play hasn’t been top notch level, he provides an aura of stability that no one will be able to give them for a while. There’s something to be said about being comfortable with people, and knowing they’re always going to be there. So while his physical play at this point may be overrated, but with his leadership we’ll see how much he’s missed.

Tim Tebow Working with Former Braves Pitcher on Throwing Motion

While Tim Tebow may not have the purest throwing motion, that’s not stopping him from attempting to improve it.

According to Si.com Tebow is working out with former Atlanta Brave pitcher Tom House in California. House has experience as a pitching coach in the major leagues, and to the University of Southern California and currently serves as a volunteer assistant to the team.

Besides being a former major leaguer, House’s claim to fame comes from catching Hank Aaron’s 715th homerun ball in the Braves’ bullpen in 1974.

Albeit working out with a pitching coach is a different approach for Tebow, only time will tell if what he’s doing to improve the weakest aspect of his game has worked.

One thing we can give Tebow credit for is his tenacity to improve and to work on his game; some players can get away with their raw talent and ability without having to work as hard. Tebow for sure isn’t taking the opportunity for granted. For all he knows if Sanchez doesn’t struggle, he may not get a chance to start at qb to prove that he can consistently throw the ball.

Man of my Word

I, sole proprietor of JbSmooth84.com am an honorable guy. I pay my taxes, help old ladies cross the street. I mean I’m a good dude. So I’m here to pay my debt. I lost a bet to a guy on Twitter named Keith (@brksfromthepnd).

The bet was, whether Tim Tebow would win a playoff game or not. Well… I took the he would not side of that bet and well I have to now pay the piper.

Let this be a lesson, there’s no such thing as a sure bet.

The payback; I had to take a picture ‘Tebowing’. So because the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to play the worse defense ever, I’m here to pay off my debt.
