After three consecutive trips to the NBA Finals, one NBA championship Cavs former general David Griffin General Manager has decided to leave the organization. Griffin and the Cavs were reportedly active in trade talks deep into the evening on Monday June 19th, a year to the day the Cavs won their first NBA title. In a message sent to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin the NBA executive expressed that the fit was not right for him to continue his duties working with Dan Gilbert.

The Cavs coming off three consecutive 50 win seasons the longest streak in franchise history are now burdened with the task of re-tooling a team with few draft picks of value, little cap space and to top it all off, LeBron James is entering into the final year of his contract. As it stands, during Dan Gilbert’s 12 year tenure as owner he’s never retained a general manager after their initial contract. That doesn’t point to an organization with stability. With the draft coming in days, teams are open to dealing and the Cavs currently have no GM to field calls. The Cavs current basketball operations department includes, a cast of Koby Altman ( player personnel), Brock Alter, Tony Leotti (administration/cap guy), Jon Nichols and Mike Gansey (Canton Charge GM).
